Here's me in Helsinki!!!! We went shopping today, and several people I love now have presents....
this photo was taken at a quarter past nine last night.
it simply doesn't get dark.

a monument for a finnish composer, in downtown helsinki.

some amazing finnish shoes. I really like the shoes they have. Maybe this is a good idea for a present for me?
and at the cafe we ate at today, they sell meringue. That's it- just a big blob of meringue.
Needless to say I didn't try it haha. But I did have an excellent cappuchino.

Today I äm going to Helsinki!!!
It's FUH reezing, but I'm wearing my dress anyway...

Here's what we ate directly after breakfast. We looked all over town for an open coffeehouse, and the Swiss man's was open!!
His chocolate potatoe cakes made me sick, though...

Here is the glass museum we went to. There was a flea-markety thing going on outside it, everyone was selling their old glassware.
Here is the door to a glass artist's studio. He lived nearby, so we went and checked it out. He was home! And he even blew some glass for us. I bought a postcard his daughter printed.

i must be brief- we're making some of those giant cinnamon rolls you saw right now!!!
They're called bunnies here- I've eated six.

(some house on the street where we live)

finland finland finland!!!

i love finland!

here are a few pictures from today. Everyone in town is very surprised that I carry a camera around (Mona says tourists never come here) and they wonder where I'm from.

You'd think they'd guess, though, because of my loud sharp English.

Here we eat five times a day. It sounds like a lot, but the meals are so little and quaint that it's like a whole day full of snacks! Yesterday for tea (tea!) we had waffle and syrup ice cream:

Today, Mona, Niko and I walked to get postcards (they should be in the mail tomorrow I think)
and to buy socks (we didn't buy socks).
But the best part, besides the eight degree weather was getting a mocha at
Kulma konditorio, (Corner Coffee)

(Mona says her grandmother will make me one of these homemade....and I think I may end up bringing ole Mamaw back home with me.....)

Here's a photo of Mona:
(she says it's a bad picture, but I like it)

Here's my little place in the bathroom. As you can see, I am different but I'm still part of the family.

i would strongly suggest a visit to Hyvinkää. It's well worth the cold weather.

asheville

so I'm going to finland tomorrow...
and i feel sickish, and i miss here already.
ew
